SSR
I have been told that ever since I was a little girl I have loved to read books. My mom tells me that I would see her reading her books and I would ask for one to or I would find her books lying around the house and carry them around everywhere we went. So one day she took me to rent some picture books and I was I love. As I got older I would go to the library and get longer harder to read books.
In every English class that I have had there has always been a day that is designated to read books for our own entertainment. Starting ERW this school year I remember wondering what day we were going to designate to read our own books. A couple weeks went by and Ms. Fletcher never mentioned anything about reading and I remember thinking "well I guess we don’t read our own books in twelfth grade". But now we get to read every Monday and I look forward to going to third period. I would say that it is because I know that we are going to be able to read out own books.
Recently we have started to reread a book series written by Simone Elkeles. The books are about two teens that come from totally different back grounds ethnicity wise and money wise. But as time goes on they go from hating each other to falling for each other, and they had to put up with the gossip that started going around at school and at home. I recommend these books to anyone who likes to read teen romance or teen drama books.

Alright Vanessa I'll read the book you convinced me I'll do it but under the condition that I start crying from this book. Just like you thought I enjoy reading Monday's cause honestly I find it difficult to read at my own house so those Monday's we read I enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering too at the beginning of the school year when SSR would finally start. I like reading, especially at school because it's a nice break in the day to go off into fantasy land and live another life for forty minutes. I've always enjoyed reading as well and am glad that we've gotten this time every year to read at least one day a week. Right now I'm actually reading a teen drama romance novel.
ReplyDeleteReading is something that I believe connects us to one another because we all have a certain genre we rather read than another and there is someone else that likes that genre too which brings conversation to the table about thoughts and opinions on the book. I love reading because I always like pretending to be that character in that book as I'm reading like I'm going through what they're going through(weird, maybe, accept it). I connect with books on another level. Which I hope others do too because books are actually beautiful learning experiences. By the way, the books Vanessa recommended are actually really great so I am also recommending them.
ReplyDeleteI had almost the opposite of what you had growing up. My family would almost never read but we both came to the same conclusion. I love to read. I try do get at least 30 minutes in everyday and Mondays bring make me happy just knowing that I will be able to do what i love for a whole hour. Reading has alway helped me make connections with some special people just by bonding on a book that taught us the same lesson or gave us the same feelings.
