Why Go to College

Why go to college? Why not go to college? With so many benefits leading in to make a prosperous future, this is an option one should consider. A college education will more likely guarantee that you will make twice as much money than someone who only holds a high school diploma. Maybe working full time right after graduation sounds more appealing because money will be coming in right away. Looking at the big picture, college is a lifetime investment, and you be making a greater income with a career requiring a higher education. People with only a high school education may see their income decline over the years.
College is a chance to discover your interests and find your hidden talents. Many will even go in as an undecided major, so not having a well thought-out plan right away should not be a fret. In fact, if you do feel the common anxieties and stress over planning and preparing for college, a counselor is usually available. Someone will be able to help with the nerves getting ready for this new environment. No one has to feel overwhelmed.
Money does not have to be an excuse if one can't afford college. Anyone can still receive a great education from non-Ivy League schools, which would save several thousand dollars. Financial aid is available to everyone, and also consider scholarships, loans, grants, and prepaid tuition programs. Maybe a part-time job would be more beneficial. There should be no excuse for not going to college. Anyone with a desire for learning and a higher education can go, and there will always be someone there to help you get through.

  1. All I need to say is, if you go to college, you'll gain information and skills that you'll use for the rest of your life. That's reason enough to pursue an education beyond high school. But if you still don't get it, ...well, just remember, college=more money, expansion of knowledge and more potential...!! Nice work Melinda!:)

  2. Why go to college?... Why not ? I believe that everyone should go to college because not only it is going to gain your education, but it will help you in the long run when you are striving to get your future job. Everyone should strive to go to college to better there education than just stopping right after high school. A college education will benefit you in the long run by a higher pay in your career. I say that people should go to college because say you have a little job like at a fast-food place or restaurant it wont help you support you when you have a start having a family when your older or help support yourself. A college education will, by getting that education you need for that professional job. People cant always settle for just a little job at a restaurant or a grocery store. Going to college will help you support you when you are independent in life.
College is not all about education and work, work, work. Its about finding yourself as a person and what career will suite you. College is a time to meet new people and start to realize that you are in the real world and that we need to become responsible. College will help you prepare for a professional career. For example,a professor will give you a 8-10 page essay on something that will be due the nest day and you'll be so stressed. That essay may come up to be like a assignment that your boss gave you to do that is expected to be done tomorrow morning and you will be able to do it because you've learned how to work under stress and how to get it done cause of the college experience you had.
I just believe that everyone should go to college cause it will give you higher pay, an education, and a place to find yourself in life. And don't make excuses not to go ...

  4. Melinda Smith. I love this post. It is not only eloquent but for the most part very true!
I think college is great for anyone, for the undecided and decided, the poor and the rich, the uptight and the free, the experienced and the inexperienced. No matter what, college is absolutely beneficial. Some may make the argument that it is time-consuming and perhaps even tedious in the face of an already set future and whatnot, but what those specific people don't know is that a little more knowledge doesn't hurt at all, and for those people, it would most certainly be a humbling experience. This world can be cruel and dark at times; thus, it could use a little more light in the form of knowledge and intellect. Education is the conduit through which these things are sought, and it is surely salvation for any soul willing to open up to such enlightenment.

  5. I must admit I have previously looked with distaste at ivy league schools, and their outrageous prices. It seems as if it was all organized to keep the rich rich and the poor poor by making ivy league education at a price that only the wealthy can afford. I am coming to see a different side of the equation. There are in fact many opportunities for scholarships and grants to study at these schools. I still am a little distrustful, even if you manage to pull together the money for tuition, you know have years of debt from loans. It seems that a non-Ivy league school is the most realistic choice, and then Ivy league school are again left to the wealthy.
    This system needs to change.
