Excuses people use

Grades. Grades. Grades. That’s what college is all about isn’t it? We all think that if we don’t have all A’s we will not get accepted into any of the good colleges because it’s not good enough. Well actually no, colleges look for more than just your grades.

This excuse has been used a lot to try to somehow refuse college without even giving yourself a chance. Besides your grades colleges also look at all the activities that you’ve been in throughout your high school years, the clubs that you were a part of, sports that you played, and what you’re involved in outside of school.

I just realized for myself that colleges do want you to having passing grades. But they also want to see that you took that extra step in trying an AP class or two.  They want to see that you tried your best and did all you could do in your classes, they want to see you as a whole not as a part of yourself. They want to know that with you joining their college campus that you are going to do your best, make a difference out there, and that you will be involved and participate in what they have to offer such as clubs, sports, or extracurricular activities that they have on their campus to offer you.

All you really have to do is give yourself a chance. You need to stop judging yourself and your grades and apply. Apply for the colleges you want because truth is colleges are not stopping you from getting you where you want to be, you are by not applying.

  1. Pretty harsh Feliz. Hhaaha, I guess I am not going to college:( I didn't take any AP Classes any of my years. But I do try hard, but it is as if my hardest is never enough. I really tend to blank out sometimes. Maybe because of all the work I get in one day stresses my brain to the maximum. But I will apply to colleges though, because I know that I can try hard and increase my knowledge. Maybe I will even apply for a UC school. (waste of money huh) lol!!! joking. I'll apply for one UC school..that is about it...:)

  2. Honestly, you don't need to take AP classes and be involved all over campus. You just need to apply. The application process seems scary and definitely intimidating, but you just have to try. I'm not promising that USC will accept you, but you will find a school that will. Community College is an education too. Don't look down on JCs. As long as you stay on track, you can easily transfer to a higher insitution.

  3. I use to use this excuse when i first started high school. Ninth grade year ended and i didnt have the scores that i wanted! I had barly passed geometery with a C and D. which meant that i was going to have to take the class over again! I was so mad with myself i was like "great now im not going to be able to get into the schools that i want because of my grades". But now that i understand more on how colleges work im not freaking out as much. Now i know that their looking at way more that just my grades, I know that they want us to be involved with other things in and out of school. So im just going to try my hardest since im not the best academic wise and get involved in other things as well.

  4. For me i don't think it an excuse . I mean i get your point in all but remember when we had the counselors talk to us about the requirement to get in to a good college you had to have like a 4.0 GPA, ; Which i talked to a lot of people and that kinda got there dreams shattered so yeah i think grades has a big part in whether it what colleges are looking for . Though i do believe in the other part to, where they look for extra actives that you did in you high school years. which i wish i would have known early but i have done and still working on.Other then that good report i enjoyed it.

  5. These excuses or whatever you would like to call them, I feel come from a lack of confidence that has been engraved in our minds subliminally. Since we first began school we were taught that only the best are rewarded, thus creating competition among each other. But it is true you do not need to have the above a 4.0 gpa to be able to be successful in life. Many think you do but you don't. I do not think people lack good grades or intelligence, I think they lack motivation and ambition, and those are the reasons that these "excuses" are created.
